Parish Groups

St Peter's has a large number of groups. New members are always welcome.

Caring Groups:

The Legion of Mary
Visiting sick, elderly, lonely, hospital and residential homes. We visit people of all denominations.
Meet: Monday 2.0 pm in the Parish Room.

 

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (S.V.P.)
We make family visits, visit the elderly, residential homes and patients in Hospital, we help those who need financial help, deliver food parcels etc. We help anyone in need. We collect furniture and deliver it to those who need it.
Meet: on First Sunday of each Month at 10.30 am in the Parish Room.

 

St. Martha Bereavement Group
The group befriends any parishioners who have been bereaved. We usually attend the funeral Mass or service and place the Pall (white cloth) over the coffin. A sympathy card and book are given to the family after the service. A follow up visit is made and we take either a plant or flowers. If they wish we make further visits for as long as necessary.

 

Signini Group.

Members attend Mass at Cardiff Prison on Friday afternoons.

Catechetical Groups:

St Peter's Children's Liturgy "Key Club"
This takes place at the 9.30 am Mass every Sunday except when there is a school Mass (on the third Sunday of the month during term time).
The children are split into two groups: Year 1 and under; Year 2 and over. Parents of the younger children often join in. The sessions are usually based on a Gospel story linked to the Sunday of the year and is followed up with a related activity.
The children each have a 'Passport' and enjoy putting on a star as they come into church.
The group is very well attended and we aim to make it enjoyable.

 

The Right of Christian Initiation for Adults (R.C.I.A)
The R.C.I.A is a programme of sharing and growing in faith towards becoming a full member of the Catholic Church.
In St. Peter's we meet regularly in a group. In a friendly way we consider the journey of faith that God has led us to so far and look towards his promises for the future.

Liturgical Groups:

Eucharistic Ministers
Administer the Blessed Sacrament at Mass and to the sick and housebound.

 

Readers
Read at all Masses on a Rota basis.

St. Peter's Music Groups.
We provide music for the 9.30 am Sunday Masses on a weekly basis. The music is chosen to reflect the readings of each particular Mass.
Meet: Thursdays 7.15 - 9.00 pm.

 

St. Peter's Parish Choir
Provides "Traditional" and contemporary music for Sunday Masses and other major celebrations.
Meet: Friday 8.00 pm and Sunday 10.15 am in the Choir Room with additional rehearsals at Easter and Christmas.

 

Welcomers
Welcomers greet people as they arrive for Mass on Saturday evening and Sunday Mornings.

 

Guild Of St. Stephen (Altar Servers)
Serve Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses.

 

Vergers
Take charge of the collections during and after Mass, organise the Offertory Processions and the selling of newspapers.

Prayer & Spirituality Groups:

Association of Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Lay Apostolate
Adorers pledge to spend one hour per week in silent adoration.
Wednesdays from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm in St David's Chapel.

 

Morning Prayer
This is the prayer, which unites us with all the people in the world who celebrate the daily Divine Office. The Office includes psalms, readings and intercessions for the Church and the world.
Meet: 9.15 am Monday to Thursday in St. David's Chapel.

 

Divine Mercy Group
The group meets every week to recite the Chaplet of Mercy, praying for special intentions for peace, conversion of sinners, our Pope, Christian unity, the sick and the dying. Spiritual reading from the messages of merciful love.
Meet: Weekly on Mondays, in the Presbytery.

 

Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Essentially a praying group: Mass, Rosary, Little Office of Our Lady. Serving the Church as talents direct.
Meet: 3rd Monday of the month at 8.00 pm in the Presbytery.

 

First Frday Devotions.

Meet at 3.0pm - 4.0pm on the First Friday of every month in St. David's Chapel.

 

Secular Franciscan Order
We try to live the Gospel life after the manner of St. Francis, taking the Sacraments frequently, treating others as divine gifts, respecting creation.
Meet: 1st Tuesday of the month in the presbytery at 7.30pm.

 

Tuesday Prayer Group.
An Ecumenical prayer group who meet to praise God using the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit. The needs of the group, its members, the Parish and the wider world are prayed for. Songs, psalms and scripture readings form part of the meeting.
Meet: Weekly on Tuesdays at 7.30 to 9.00 pm in St. David's Chapel.

 

Rosary
The Rosary is offered before the evening Mass on Fridays.
Meet: 7.10 pm in St. David's Chapel.

Social Groups:

St. Peter's Bowling Club
The club is always looking for new members and welcomes experienced players and novices. Why not give it a try?!

 

St. Peter's Players.
A pantomime once a year. A full stage spring production some years. Monthly social events and workshops relevant to drama and the stage. Some smaller scale productions performed as "one offs" at some of our monthly events. The present group was founded in 1984 and is growing stronger every year.

 

St. Peter's Senior Citizens.
Enjoy tea and Biscuits plus a game of bingo & raffle making it an enjoyable afternoon, plus five trips a year and Line Dancing.
Meet: Wednesday 2.00 - 4.00 pm in St. Peter's Hall.

 

St Peter's Social Club
Open to anyone in the Parish. A social meting point for relaxation and chat. Organises events with a Catholic ethos.
Meet: Parish Hall

 

Young Adults Group.
Gather for meals and social activities to support each other and enjoy each other's company.

Other Groups:

Ascribed Members of the Rosminian Order.

Members meet each month to discuss aspects of the teachings of Antonio Rosmini.

Altar Linen Laundry.
To provide a regular supply of clean altar linen, twice weekly.

 

Association for the Propagation of the Faith (APF).
The promoters and helpers organise the emptying of the red mission boxes, usually in March and September. If you would like a box to collect spare cash for the Mill Hill Fathers to help their missionary work please contact the Presbytery.

Church Cleaners.
At present four teams of people clean the church on a regular basis (each team operates one week in four).
Meet: Monday mornings or evening rotas in the Church. New members always needed. If you would like to join a team please contact the Presbytery.

 

Cardiff Justice and Peace Group.
Active member of Wales 2000 coalition; Helped to organise the Church Action on Poverty Pilgrimages; Involvement with Cardiff One World Week; sends a representative to the meetings of the Justice and peace Network, the Catholic Refugee Forum, the Social Justice Commission, the Welsh Refugee Council. Organises the sending of cards to "Prisoners of Conscience" (Annual Christmas Card Campaign) and provides opportunities for reflection and spiritual renewal for Justice and Peace members
Meet: 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the Month at 7.30 pm in the University Chaplaincy.

 

Churches Together in Roath Park.
Two lay members plus one member of the clergy from all the churches in the Roath area, meet four times a year to arrange joint events of worship together i.e. Pentecost Praise; Carol Singing; Church Services for Christian Unity etc. Publish "Network" magazine, which gives details of services and events in the different churches. The representatives publish these events in their own churches, and try to encourage their fellow church members to attend.
Meet: Quarterly at Roath Park URC Church.

 

Churches Together in Splott.
A very active group. Christians of all denominations working together in many ways.

 

Gift Aid Scheme.
Promotes and organises the Gift AidScheme, which is a way for tax payers to donate to the Parish and for the Parish to re-claim the tax. The scheme provides complete confidentiality to those contributing to the Parish in this way. If you are a member of St Peter's Parish and a taxpayer please give serious consideration to joining this scheme.

 

Finance Committee.
Looks after the financial interests of the Parish. This includes counting Collections, Accounting, Book Keeping and Banking. Annual Accounts presented to the Parish and Diocese.

 

Flower Arrangers.
Organise Altar flowers for Christmas, Easter, Weddings & Special Occasions.

 

Newsletter Team.
Produce the weekly parish Newsletter. Always pleased to receive help from computer literate parishioners. If interested in joining the rota (approx one week in five, please contact the Presbytery).
Meet: Thursday evenings.


Repository (Shop)
Looks after the shop at the back of the church. Open before and after all weekend Masses.

 

Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child (SPUC).
Defend rights of unborn children and their mothers. Attempts to change and remove the 1967 Abortion Act. Campaigns against Euthanasia. Not a Catholic organisation nor affiliated to any political party.

 

Cardiff Good Counsel.

A pro-life organisation, offering friendship, counselling, practical help etc. to women.

 

St. Peter's Brownies & Rainbows.
The following activities are offered: games, crafts, cooking, out of doors, keeping healthy, thinking about other people, keeping the Promise - all with a Catholic ethos.
Meet: Weekly except School holidays in Youth Hall
Brownies: Monday 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm.
Rainbows: Monday 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm

 

Mother, Baby & Toddler Group - 'Dinky Little Dots'

Meet Wednesdays and Fridays from 1.30pm - 3.15pm at St. Peter's Youth & Community Hall, Bedford Street.
