ADVENT
Advent is a season of hope. It would be hard to exaggerate the value of hope. It is said that while there is life there is hope. This has an even deeper meaning in reverse; while there is hope there is life. As long as there is hope, no situation is impossible. It is the task of Christians to keep alive hope in the world. Advent summons us to wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. In the final analysis, He is our hope. If you have not taken your sheet from the back of Church explaining the meaning of the ceremony of the Advent Wreath and how to make one, please do so today.
Reconciliation during
Advent will take place every Sunday before Mass as well as on Fridays and Saturdays.
Exposition, Evening Prayer and Benediction will be held here every Sunday in Advent at 5pm.

GAUDETE SUNDAY
Gaudete means “rejoice”. Today we light the pink candle on the Advent Wreath and the clergy wear rose-coloured vestments to emphasis our joy that Christmas is near. This day reminds us of the joy that is to come and serves, amid this season of penance, as a ‘break’ when we recall the hope we have because of the coming of Our Lord Jesus.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE CARE OF CREATION
This was read out last week and you are asked to continue saying the prayer…
Father, Lord of all creation, we praise you with all your creatures and the whole universe that comes forth from the work of Your hands. We acknowledge the privilege and responsibility that You give us as stewards of Your creation. In our ignorance we have done damage to our common home and our brothers and sisters are suffering. Through faithfully following your Son, guide and direct us to prepare for a better future. Teach us to contemplate You in the beauty of the universe, for all things speak of You. Give us the grace to recognise, respect and protect all You have created, using wisely all that You have entrusted to us. Holy Spirit, who first hovered over the dawn of creation and drew order out of the chaos, help us to build your kingdom of justice, love, peace and beauty where the poor of the earth are crying out. You, who live and reign, world without end, Amen

To contact your AM about this issue, please visit the Catholic Education Services’s website:- catholiceducation.org.uk.

THE YEAR OF THE GOD WHO SPEAKS
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales has designated the year from September 2019 to December 2020 as the ‘Year of the God Who Speaks’. It begins on 30th September 2019, on the feast of St. Jerome, the great scholar of the Bible and the first to translate it from the Hebrew into Latin, and will end on 31st December 2020. Recently, the Archbishop appointed two Scripture Champions, Kate Duffin and Madeleine Walters, to promote the ‘Year of the God Who Speaks’ in the Archdiocese of Cardiff. We are planning events and initiatives to celebrate, live and share God‘s Word and this will be the opportunity to enrich current practice and to develop and explore new ways of responding to ‘The God Who Speaks’. As these are planned, we will keep you informed.
If you have any questions and/or any ideas for the year, please contact: Kate Duffin at kate.duffin@hotmail.co.uk or Madeleine Walters at madeleine.walters@rcadc.org
