Parish Office Opening Hours:- Monday – Wednesday and Friday – 9.15 am – 1.15 am
MASS INTENTIONS
We currently have spaces available for Mass intentions. If you would like to have a Mass said, for example, for the deceased, birthdays, well-being, anniversaries or other occasions, please hand your request in to the parish office.
Any donations from Mass Intentions will be sent to the Rosminian Missions.
ST ALBAN’S PARISH
You may have heard that there is going to be a radical change at St. Alban’s Parish. At the request of the Archbishop, the Rosminian Order has agreed to transfer the pastoral care of the Parish to the Oratorians in Formation, who are at present working at the University Chaplaincy. The new Parish Priest will be Fr. Sebastian Jones. This will mean an end to the Rosminian service to the parish, which has lasted nearly 130 years. It also means that Fr. Philip will go into semi-retirement (!?) at St. Joseph’s and Fr. Michael will return once again to St. Peter’s. These changes are expected to be carried out in the first few weeks of Augus
ARCHDIOCESAN MOVES
As from 1st September:-
Archbishop George Stack will become the Rector of St. David’s Cathedral, taking over from Canon Peter Collins. Priest in charge, to assist him, will be Fr. Daniel Stanton, currently at All Saints, Newport. Canon Peter Collins will become the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s, Canton and Holy Family, Fairwater on the retirement of Monsignor John Maguire. Fr. Andy Bord will move from St. Mary’s, Canton to St. Brigid’s to work with Canon Matthew Jones.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE SOME SPARE TIME!
Do you have administrative skills?
If you have a little time to spare each week, we need volunteers to help in the Parish Office,
answering the phone, typing documents, etc. Please speak to Fr. Saji if you can help.
Church Cleaning
Can you spare just one hour each month to help clean and tidy the Church?
We should be most grateful for any volunteers, so please ring the office on 2048 3394 if you can help.
Altar Linen Appeal
Since the Convent closed last century, parish volunteers have laundered the church altar cloths on a weekly rota. There are now only three of us left doing this so we urgently need more people to collect, wash, iron and fold. Training will be given. Contact Fr. Saji if you can help please.
Could you comfort the bereaved?
St. Peter’s Bereavement Befriending Group which offers a listening ear meets each Wednesday at 7 pm. Please speak to Paul Warren (Music Group) if you are interested.
It’s our volunteers who keep the Church and the Parish Community running smoothly. Just a few hours here and there can make a huge difference. The more volunteers we have, the lighter the load.
Fr AJI ALPHONSE
We welcome Fr Aji Alphonse, a Rosminian priest from our Indian province, who has recently been at St. Joseph’s parish and will now join our parish on Sunday 2nd June to assist Fr Saji.
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT GIFT AIDING YOUR DONATIONS?
If you are a Tax Payer, the Government will add an additional 25% to the amount that you donate without any cost to you. This means that if you gave £1 a week to the church, the yearly total would be £52. The Income Tax reclaimed would be £13 so the real amount of your gift to the church would be £65 a year. Please give serious thought to joining this scheme as it will enable extra funds to be made available to St. Peter’s. .If you wish to join, please speak to Fr. Saji or contact Maria in the Presbytery office or email John Grimes at johngrimes93@gmail.com
THE POPE’S MONTHLY PRAYER INTENTION
You may wish to know that the diocesan website has been updated to include a page dedicated to the Holy Father, with a list of his intentions for 2019 (https://rcadc.org/holy-father). There is a short video available centred around the monthly intentions (https://www.thepopevideo.org) which has been recorded by Pope Francis as a personal message to the viewer. There is also an app that links users around the world in prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions, available from the Apple Store or Google Play, which can be accessed through the Click to Pray website (https://www.clicktopray.org)
FOOD BANK DONATIONS
Further to last week’s notice, please note that Cardiff Food Bank is presently prioritising rice pudding, jam, custard, tinned tomatoes and sponge puddings, but the needs of families helped by the SVP still include coffee, tea, sugar, rice, pasta, tinned fish , beans, tinned meat, chocolate. Of course any food donations are welcome – many thanks. There is a container in the porch.
QUINQUENNIAL INSPECTION
Following this five-yearly inspection of our beautiful church, there are some essential building works to be completed within a specified time frame. We are appealing for your help in funding this work and a box is in front of the pulpit for your donations which can be given before or after Mass. Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone would like to sponsor a particular part of the work (it could be large or small!), you can contact Fr. Saji. Gift aid donations would be especially welcome. There are some photos at the back of the church of the ongoing work at the Community Hall, the Church and the Presbytery. The leaks have been repaired on the right hand side of the church, timbers and loose slates replaced. The boiler has been repaired. The outside of the church near the pavement is being worked on, so please be careful of the scaffolding.
NEW ROSMINIAN PROVINCIAL
As from 6th January, 2019, the Superior General of the Rosminian Order, Fr. Vito Nardin, has appointed Fr. Chris Fuse as Provincial Superior of the Province, Great Britain and New Zealand. Many of you will remember him from his time at St. Peter’s, St. Joseph’s and St. Alban’s. We wish him well.
RENOVATION WORK
There are some photos at the back of the church of the ongoing work at the Community Hall, the Church and the Presbytery.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe – Prisoner of Conscience
In view of Nazanin’s declining health and lack of adequate medical treatment in prison, her family has again asked that people send her cards and messages of support. If you would like to do this, – from members of the Justice and Peace Group.
FR TONY UPDATE
Fr Tony is pleased to say that the latest scan shows the tumour has not grown at all in six months and all that is recommended is a further scan in September. So Thank you all once again, for your prayerful support. As Rosmini said “ Adore, be silent, rejoice”.
PARKING – IMPORTANT NOTICE!!
Please be very careful where you park when you attend Church. In particular, do not block the entrance, or park in the lane leading to St. Peter’s Hall, as access is needed at all times and, last week, someone prevented this from happening. Thank you.
MASS BOOKINGS FOR 2019
Next year’s diary has now arrived. If you have particular dates on which you’d like to have a Mass celebrated, perhaps for an anniversary or any other intention, please call in at the presbytery during the week or just phone. DONATION BOXES
You may have noticed that the boxes at the back of the church marked ‘Holy Souls’ and ‘Alms’ have been swapped around. This was done to address the fact that the ‘Alms’ box was difficult to access, leading to few offerings. The giving of alms is critical to the work done by the parish to help impoverished parishioners and those in need of help. It is hoped that the new location will lead to an increase in donations. Those wishing to donate for the Holy Souls can do so by putting money in the box behind the newspaper table.
CAN YOU HELP TO SERVE REQUIEMS AND FUNERAL SERVICES?
Due to illness and William’s departure, the Parish needs one or two people to assist clergy in conducting funerals. Volunteers need to be available on weekdays, on average, once or twice a month. Training will be
provided. Please talk to Fr Tony for details.
MISSIO RED BOXES
These are to be opened this month by our Parish Promoters whose names are on the boxes. Please do not leave any boxes in the church or at the presbytery or hand them to our priests. Individual arrangements are made to collect monies and boxes may be left in the shop. If you would like a Mission Box or have any queries please ring 2049 4003. Read how the donations are used in Mission Today magazine. Last year over £3,000 was in our parish boxes. Even small donations are important.
